When the trigger signal is applied then momentarily the output goes into the unstable state and once again comes back into the stable state. To design this monostable multivibrator circuit using an op-amp, the op-amp is used with the positive feedback. The time for which the output goes into the unstable state can be given by the expression: T= RC ln (1 + R2/R1) Where R1 and R2 are the resistors used with the op-amp in the positive feedback configuration. The trigger signal which is used to change the state of the monostable multivibrator is a very short duration pulse. And usually, it is generated using the RC differentiator circuit. In the video, how the trigger signal can be derived using the RC differentiator circuit has been explained. And the expression for the time duration for which the output goes into the unstable state is also derived.
