This Saturday I will release a very special song...

It features only Victor's violin and will be acompagned by a full videoclip in Black & White shot by Sylvain Trouvé (Brume).

It's different than what I usually do, and I really like the result.

I've been wanting to announce that officially for a long time ! long read ahead :)

I've started working on a full length album, 10 tracks, 45+ minutes of music.

I wanted to get a head start before announcing as to not let too much time pass between the announcement and the completion.

I expect to finish 90% of the composition in 2024.
Then will come the arrangements, production, videoclips, and finally the release !

All I have done for the past 10 years was in preparation of such task.
Having worked on many albums for bands during my years as a studio producer, I saw that completing albums is a difficult and long process.

You need skills in composition & arrangements, but also, and even more importantly, you need maturity in concept development and project management.

Having done a good 100+ covers certainly helps :)

I also plan to have a good portion of this album being clipped, as I do not conceive music without visual narration.

This will almost be a concept album, making extensive use of orchestra & cinematic textures.
With a (very) strong emphasis on recognisable melodies & theme.
And of course, the Erhu will take the center part, as well as the Zhonghu probably.

Many musicians will feature on the album : violin, cello, ethnic flutes, singers... probably more !

I will give progress updates through the year 2024 as I progress.
Right now I'd say that I'm 20-30% done with the composition...

Recent weeks has been spent trying to put together a massive orchestral saga centered around asian legends & folklore.

I do not know yet how I'm going to produce & release it, but I am thinking more and more about doing a crowdfunding.
It seems to me the best way to proceed as I always felt close to my fanbase.

But first, I need to compose it ! So that's it for this update, stay tuned, can't wait to unveil more !

This year has been the conclusion of my epic Erhu learning manga arc 😁



Doing this big tour in China has finally convinced me that I am now a legit Erhu player.



But it also made me realize that it is time for a change.



All those years I spent most of my time doing covers of music I like, nothing wrong with that, but now I feel that it's time to focus on something else.



My life goal has never been to be only a musician : I always wanted to be a composer first.

Why have I not already switched my focus on composition then ?



Because it's crazy hard.
It is signficantly harder than doing covers.

And I wanted to become a better musician, a better producer first.



Adding to that the fact that I need to compose specifically around the Erhu, and now you got a real challenge.

So this year 2024 will mark the big switch of my focus toward composition.


I plan to release updates & teasers in the form of journal posts as I advance on my big project.



Don't worry, I will also still post covers, just less frequently than the last 5 years !
