Kyrgyzstan's new flag, adopted on 26 December, 2023.
A debate in the Zhogorku Kengesh (Kyrgyzstan's parliament), sprung up concerning the design of the sun on the flag, some said it looked too much like a sunflower, which in Kyrgyz culture can symbolize fickleness and servility. A new bill to change the flag was proposed and voted on, and on 22 December, Sadyr Japarov, (president of Kyrgyzstan) signed it into law, and came into force on 26 December. 

As of 1 January 2024, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates have joined BRICS.
