The Mark 9 depth charge was designed in 1941 and entered service in 1943. This depth charge featured a teardrop design which allowed for a faster sink rate. Making evasion for the target submarine more difficult. The Mod 2 could sink over 22 feet per second. Additionally, the Mod 2 of this DC contained an explosive charge consisting of 190lbs of TNT. Later variants used Torpex explosive. The first three pictures are from when I was abord USS KIDD. Last Photo is Mark 9 Depth Charges on USS Inch DE-146 on 12 June 1944.
