π ICH HAB'S GESCHAFFT π β C1 Deutsch π©πͺ I have finally achieved my goal of C1 German and I was able to pick up my certificate proving it after passing my exam last month! For those who aren't aware of what "C1" in a language means, here are a few things someone who is C1 in a language is supposed to be able to do: β’ understand the main points and details of texts on a wide variety of topics, β’ understand spoken language, live or broadcast, on familiar and unfamiliar topics normally encountered in a working context, β’ use the language fluently, accurately, and effectively on a wide range of general and vocational topics,Β β’ write letters in a working context, β’ use a wide range of language connected to his /her field and most general topics. What has it taken to get to this level? Well, the journey isn't the same for everyone, but for me, it meant intensive German classes 3-4 hours a day, 5 days a week for one year cumulatively (I did 5 months in 2019-2020, forced to stop for the pandemic, finished 1 more month to achieve B1, took some time off, picked back up last year and just completed another 6 months of intensive classes). Taking online classes here and there, a few evening classes during my break between B1 and B2, consuming as much German media as I could (podcasts, TV shows, music, movies, YouTube, books, etc.), and of course, living in Germany for 4.5 years trying to immerse myself and speaking as much as I could with our German neighbors, friends, and community. Hoping to apply for German citizenship soon! π
