I have applied for the Chemnitzer Linux-Tage 2024 with a Linux Driver Workshop. In this Workshop we will Develop a Driver to Control the 7 segment Display.

Wish me luck so that my Workshop is accepted. BTW: You can know found me on Mastadon: https://social.linux.pizza/@johannes4linux

Greetings from the Kieler Linuxtage!

The Kieler Linuxtage are a meeting of Linux and open source enthusiasts with talks and workshops. This year I hold a workshop about Linux Driver Programming at Kielux. It was a really great experience and I am looking forward to give more workshops like this.

I also enjoy the other talks and workshops and the ability to meet other people from the FOSS and Linux community. Thank you to the organizers of Kielux and I hope, I can participate next year, too!

Greetings from the Embedded World, one big hardware and microcontroller exhibition in Nürnberg 👋
I had some really interesting talks with different vendors and even got some hardware ⚙️
A big thank you to Forlinx Embedded for donating me an evaluation board with a brand new Am62x ASIC from Texas Instruments. A new series about crosscompiling is coming up 😀

Christmas is coming and I have an idea to do an AVR Programming advent calendar. So, there will be 24 videos about how to program an AVR 8 bit microcontroller with avr-gcc and how to use the various peripherals like GPIOs, SPI, I2C, UART, Timer, Watchdog, ... What do you think?

Sounds great. Please do this.

Sounds interesting, but only if this doesn't delay the USB videos

Don't do this and focus on USB and Linux Drivers.

Save the date! I will give a talk about Micropython on 13.11.2022 at Tux-Tage!

Tux-Tage is a FOSS online event with talks, discussions and workshops and scheduled for 11.11. till 13.11.2022. For more info see https://www.tux-tage.de/

I will give a talk about Micropython and how to get started with it. You will learn about how to use the most common embedded interfaces like UART, SPI, I2C, … in Micropython. My talk is scheduled on 13.11.2022 on 13:10 . Sadly the presentation is in German only. But after the talk you can join a discussion round where you can talk with me.

New series about USB is coming up!
The last three weeks I had vacation from work, my master thesis and my channel. While traveling around with the 9€ ticket I got time to learn about USB. In the future I want to create a series about GNU/Linux and USB. We will learn about the USB basics, how to implement an USB device on a micro-controller and how to control the device with Linux userspace applications or a Linux Driver.
But I have still a lot to learn before I can do this series. Right now I haven't decided which USB controller I want to use. The Raspberry Pi Pico and the Atmega32u4 are in the closer selection.
If you want to help me, maybe you can answer my questions posted on stack overflow:
 https://stackoverflow.com/questions/73427364/tinyusb-minimal-example-with-one-control-endpoint
 https://stackoverflow.com/questions/73420343/linux-driver-programming-problem-with-usb-control-msg

It will take me some time to do this series. But in the meantime I will continue my Linux Driver Tutorials with a new video coming up next week. So, stay tuned!
