We first observed National Coming Out Day on October 11, 1988, on the anniversary of the National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights as a reminder that one of our most basic tools is the power of coming out. 

It's Officially Bisexual Awareness Week!! Also known as  #BiWeek , is celebrated in September (during the week of September 23rd, which is Bi Visibility Day). This week seeks to accelerate acceptance of the bi+ (bisexual, pansexual, omnisexual, polysexual, fluid, no label, queer, etc.) community.  #BiWeek  draws attention to the experiences, while also celebrating the resiliency of, the bisexual+ community. 🔴🟣🔵

When in monogamous relationships, bisexual people are often assumed to be gay, lesbian, or heterosexual based on the gender of their partner.
When bisexual people are open about their sexuality, they face:
- Increased levels of violence from intimate partners
- Rejection by community, family, and peers
- Skepticism from the people and organizations whom they turn to for help, resources, and services.

So it's time to step up and be an ally to your bisexual friends and neighbors!

Non-Binary Awareness Week begins this year on the 11th of July 2022. It is a week dedicated to those who do not fit within the traditional gender binary or put simply, those who do not exclusively identify as a man or a woman, or who may identify as both a man and a woman or may fall outside of these categories altogether.

Non-Binary Awareness Day falls on the 14th of July. The date falls strictly between International Women's Day (March 8) and International Men's Day (November 19), as a symbolic gesture of what the day is raising awareness for. The first year the day was observed was 2012 and, since, it's expanded into a week-long awareness campaign.

Non-Binary, Dictionary.com explains, "is often used as an umbrella term that covered a lot of people—including anyone who doesn't consider themself entirely male or female." Some non-binary consider themselves trans, some consider themselves a-gender, and others don't feel they're either. Trans-led media platform Translash points out that this is the "beauty" in Non-Binary: the person gets to define what Non-Binary means to them.

On this night, June 28, at the Stonewall Inn in New York City, the police raided the bar as had become normal. However, this time was different.
An uprising took place, which was followed by three nights of protests and civil unrest as LGBT people, long frustrated by police brutality, finally joined in fighting back.
Lesbians and trans women of colour were some of the key people involved in the first act of defiance and resistance, including Stormé DeLarverie, Sylvia Rivera, and Marsha P. Johnson, who many credits with spearheading the modern equal rights movement.
