Proud to have a lengthy review of my service featured in the world renowned traders magazine :-) 

The 2023 US Investing championship posted the final standings. There were around 400 entrants and I finished 31st.... My result included breakout trades and Index positions with some leverage.



The top half of the table provided triple digit returns. What we don't know is the leverage applied. This metric is key and is the main downfall of the competition.

If we had a reward to risk ratio perhaps in the way of the Sharpe Ratio, I believe the championship would have more merit, and perhaps more importantly provide a more realistic expectation to new traders.



As I discuss in my forum, Survivorship Bias is also a highly important consideration, and correlates strongly to the risk to reward factor.
There may have been other traders using significant risk to gain leveraged returns, however if these traders lost the bank, they do not appear in the standings and we are left being none the wiser.... This again provides a false expectation from what we can 'only' see in the results.

Nonetheless I enjoyed the experience and have a better understanding of how that competition operates 😎

As amateur traders/investors sometimes you may feel disappointed, aggrieved, angry and frustrated.

But can you imagine how these people feel, how thier clients feel.

ARK Innovation - An unimaginable salary cost, and no doubt incredible experience and intellect.

And this is what they manage to achieve:

Hitting a peak of $160 per share to a current $34 per share.

Some glaringly obvious oversights from such a 'perceivably'  capable organisation.

46 team members and yet not one risk manager or analyst able to mitigate the losses.

No doubt holding positions is a way of them justifying their management fees, either way a poor show indeed. 

Many lessons here, but most importantly, a reminder of perspective.
