Important Announcement & olcCodeJam2023 Theme Reveal!

Watch live here: https://www.twitch.tv/javidx9

CodeJam on itch.io here: https://itch.io/jam/olc-codejam-2023

Our friend and moderator SaladinAkara unexpectedly passed away recently. He was a well known character in our community, and I went to his funeral and met with his family. They were shocked and pleased to see just how popular their Matthew was. They had set up a GoFundMe campaign to assist with his funeral costs, and I'd like to think that some of the hundreds, if not thousands of people Saladin helped over the last 4 years might offer some help in return. Thank you.

So we all know CMake is the world's most complicated tool? Well it's been tamed for olcPixelGameEngine in this excellent multi platform how-to video by Moros1138! https://t.co/bS1cqBqepD

If you are into podcasts and that sort of thing, from the usual podcast places, you can get the most recent episode from the prestigious CppCast!

They have a special guest in this episode to lower the tone a bit. Take Care!

Hello!

I'm going to be doing a fairly regular show of live coding and all round sillyness. It is the definition of pointless, but the overall aim is to take on some slightly larger projects, chat with the community and have a bit of a laugh. Now it's on a rival streaming platform(!) but I'll be uploading the unedited, uncensored, likely even unentertaining recordings to my second channel "javidx9 extra" https://www.youtube.com/javidx9extra

Don't know where I'm going with it, but the pilot was a lot of fun. Anyway, keep staying safe and take care!

I've been doing some house keeping...

No video this week, as I've been busy doing all the peripheral tasks that a growing viewership requires. I've been updating the official website https://onelonecoder.com/ , you'll notice it redirects to the Community Blog now (https://community.onelonecoder.com), I felt this was in the blog's best interest and gives exposure to the members that write articles. Hopefully it can become a hub for show-casing all the fantastic projects you guys are working on. The redirect will become official soon when I sort out my hosting.

Last week the olc::BeatTheBoredom GameJam came to a conclusion, and the entries where fantastic! I'll be putting together a selection of the ones that caught my eye for a future show-case video.

The olc::PixelGameEngine has been my priority for the last week. It's been great getting feedback from users, and you'll notice there has been 5 small revisions (enhancements) since it was introduced. And with what I've seen from the projects people are working on so far, it seems to have unleashed real creativity! With that in mind, I've been working on the boring stuff - documentation, and you should find the olc::PGE Wiki is getting lots of updates https://github.com/OneLoneCoder/olcPixelGameEngine/wiki including a new "video in text form" tutorial which walks you through the basics of creating an Arkanoid/Breakout game using the various features of the olc::PGE.

I believe these are things that needed to be done (and yes, I let them pile up XD), and should be back to normal next week, until then take care!

Coding/Mathematics/Electronics Nerd?

About 4 months after I started this channel, I was about to give it up - I had about 30 subscribers, and I wasn't sure YouTube was for me. Then I got something unusual, it was a comment, and it was asking permission to make a video that featured some of my Code-It-Yourself: Tetris video. This was a pivotal moment as it convinced me to keep going - people we're actually watching!

That video was made by Brek Martin, who's channel is a gold mine of electronics projects, tutorials and destruction. He's recently just hit 3000 subscribers, and to celebrate has made a silly video featuring some very well known nerdy YouTuber's (and me).

I won't get in the habit of doing a shout-out like this, but I feel I owe Brek a lot. Thank's Brek, and congratulations! I don't think I've subscribed to a channel about a guy so passionate about his projects since.

Hello! Many of us will find ourselves in a rather frustrating situation at the moment, so why not flex those creative coding muscles and take part in olc::BeatTheBoredom, a light-hearted, informal Game Jam open to all abilities! https://itch.io/jam/olc-beat-the-boredom
Starts in 3 days, the theme will be revealed at the start.

Keep safe, follow your locally issued advice, and help those that need it if you can!
