Because after maybe 2008 it was done, people wanted unpolished sex-appeal. and that was the later-millennial glory days where vinal came back, and gastro-pubs started. IPA's started their hopps-arms-race, etc

"Mr. Brightside" was this cannon-shot of simplicity that crashed though all the polished armor of all those stylish boy-bands, regardless of how catchy their ABBA-like hooks were.
