Story name and preview:

“The Pilot” -  Five hours into an international flight, the pilot got tired of his copilot’s bragging about the “surprise” he had for his kids. So, the pilot stood up and said he was going to go get some sleep. He left the cabin, sat down in a reserved seat, and closed his eyes. He wouldn’t think about the surprise again until it was too late.

“The Blue Door” -  A woman sat up in her hospital bed and yanked the tubes out of her arms. She had decided to go home, so she got up, took off her gown, and put on her street clothes. She paused in the doorway before exiting. To her right was a long hallway filled with people. To her left was a blue door marked “EXIT.” The woman turned left, pushed open the blue door, and stepped through it. 

“The Fixer Upper” - A young couple touring a home for sale stepped into the living room and immediately started laughing. When the realtor saw the joke, she was exasperated. But all three of them would have reacted very differently if they actually understood what they were looking at.

“An Unforgettable Fare” - One morning, a taxi driver ran across the parking lot at the taxi company carrying a large golden statue of Buddha. He shoved past another driver, yanked open his cab’s door, and practically dove inside. He locked the doors and looked around suspiciously, like someone was going to try to get inside, even though no one was nearby.  Then, he put the golden Buddha on his dashboard, gunned the ignition, and swerved wildly out of the parking lot and onto the street. His coworkers watched him go with concern — they were starting to worry he was going to do something violent. But they never could have predicted what was really going on.
