FE Miller and Mantan Moreland in Blackface in the 1933 Vitaphone short "That's the Spirit."
Mantan Moreland played his bug-eyed, jittery blackface character, into a long string of comedy thrillers in the late 1930s and early 1940s. Flournoy Eakin (FE) Miller was a writer/lyricist who also was a Broadway actor and vaudeville performer. Miller was posthumously nominated for Broadway's 1979 Tony Award as Best Score for "Eubie!"
