Venomous Hognosed pit viper (Porthidium nasutum) is one of the most common venomous snakes of the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica (other pit vipers from this country are for example Terciopelo, Central American bushmaster, Eyelash pit viper, Jumping pit viper). It has a typical upturned scale on its nose. It is a very well camouflaged hunter. It has hemotoxic venom and it can be potentially deadly for humans. This video shows also another species with big scales on the nose - the Nose-horned viper (Vipera ammodytes) from Europe. You will also see some behind the scenes footage of us taking photos of this snake. The highlight for us during filming was when this snake yawned!
