In this new video series we want to gradually show you and introduce you to several originals in detail, because for model builders there is nothing better than references.
Today we show you exterior views and details of the Sturmgeschütz III Ausf.G - unfortunately Bovington completely excludes interior shots.
The Sturmgeschütz III was the most produced German full-track vehicle of the Second World War.
Approximately 8,423 vehicles of the Ausf. G (Sd.Kfz. 142/1) were built from December 1942 to April 1945.
This series was by far the most common version of the StuG III family.
This StuG III from the Tank Museum in Bovington is a version G and was probably built by Alkett between August 1943 and September 1944.
The vehicle was originally donated to the Tank Museum in 1951 and spent 15 years on loan at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford before being returned to the museum in 2019.
It is the only example in the world that still has the original waffle Zimmerit.
We are pleased that the Bovington Tank Museum made this film possible for us.
If you would like to see this vehicle (and of course many others) in the original (because no video or photo can replace the personal impression), you should plan a visit to Bovington:
