It's original music time, guys.
This song, "One-Way Glass", is probably the most intricate, multifaceted, ambitious track I've ever written, recorded, or produced. 100% of what you hear on this track is me (including the "female" backing vocals, which are pitched up and formant-shifted). I originally released this song on my 2016 album "Legacy Drivers".
Lyrics:
I just want to disappear
No one in the window, dear
Cut my hair and douse the flame
No one's gonna know my name
We run around down city streets
Around the corners
Where the edges of our memories meet
I watch us fade into the black
Like a house on fire
Porch lights alive like wire
And I want to plate the skies
Silver like the space behind my (eyes)
I just want to disappear
No one in the window, dear
Cut my hair and douse the flame
No one's gonna know my name
Tonight
I run around inside my head
Rewinding scenery
And the holes in every word you said
I hear your voice in every crack
Like a whip and wire
Stage lights and bootleg fire
And I want to paint my lies
Silver like the space behind my (eyes)
I just want to disappear
No one in the window, dear
Cut my hair and douse the flame
No one's gonna know my name
Oh, I just want to disappear
No one in the window, dear
Cut my hair and douse the flame
No one's gonna know my name
Oh, I
I run around inside my head
Inside my head
I just want to disappear
No one in the window, dear
Cut my hair and douse the flame
No knows me
No one knows my name
I hear your voice inside my head
I just want to disappear
No one in the window, dear
Cut my hair and douse the flame
No one's gonna know my name
Background: One night in Brewer, Maine, I was jamming with a friend: two guys, two guitars, two amps, and the drum machine from a Digitech RP200A multi-effects pedal. I had brought an idea I was pretty into at the time, and we riffed on it for about an hour. It was sounding good. I recorded the jam on my phone and set it aside. Eventually (two years later, to be exact), that session became "One-Way Glass" - the track you're listening to.
