I tested the Xiaomi MI robot vacuum on a big mess that included rolled oats, baby powder, crumpled paper and bits and pieces of cut paper.

Update: ever since I've recorded this cleaning test, Xiaomi has updated the firmware for this robot vacuum and it has since improved the cleaning performance by two-fold.

If there is an Achilles heel for the MI, it would be powder, while it was able to pick up some, it left a trail of powder.
If Xiaomi releases a 2.0 version of this I think they should add a sensor that detects big messes like this so that it could go over it several times until it has cleaned everything.
For the small pieces of cut paper and rolled oats, it didn't have too much problem cleaning them though it missed a few spots in part because there was a chair in the way.
It also missed some of the rolled oats on the edge - this could also use some improvement.
Overall I like the suction power and efficient cleaning pattern of the MI Robot Vac but it really does not do well-cleaning stuff like a powder but other than that it does a pretty good job on rolled oats and small pieces of paper.
A dirt detect system should be on the list of upgrades that Xiaomi has if it wants to compete with the likes of Roomba.
