Qubes OS is a reasonably secure OS, it is based on Xen hypervisor and uses virtual machines to create a compartmentalized "qube" to keep your data and your activities private.
The first time I installed Qubes it completely confused me, 1 because the color used for the various security levels were the same as the ones we used in the DoD, but they weren't at the same levels and 2) because it wasn't clear how this helped with data protection and identify privacy. After about the 4th time installing I finally started to get it. Diving your online life into compartments is what Qubes is all about. That is important from the stand point of if you are compromised only part of your life is exposed, the rest of it remains safe and secure under the compartments it was placed in.
