Linguistics is the scientific study of language. That means linguists study human language just like physicists and chemists study the natural properties of the world (and there is a lot more we can study about language than you probably realize!) If you've ever tried to explain something about your language to someone who is not a native speaker, then you're probably aware of its complexities, and that is exactly what linguists study.
This video is designed as a primer course for anyone who is interested in languages and linguistics, but doesn't want to commit to a whole university course, or reading a dense textbook. I am going to run this video series like a university linguistics course for the benefit of anyone who does not have the time or money to attend actual university courses.
