Moms are pretty cool ππΌ. I definitely didn't appreciate mine while growing up - we often don't until we become parents. It's only then that many of us realize how much they love us.
My mom was very careful with the shows that we watched. And this translated into her monitoring the types of shows we might have access to at other homes, too.
One thing she wanted to know is whether the home had Showtime, Cinemax, or HBO, because these were danger zones. Later, she added MTV to the list! I laugh π thinking about this compared to today's digital risks.
Recently, a mom sent me a DM on Instagram, asking about what questions she should ask about the home where her son was spending time.
Friends, today's risks are so much greater than the risks most of us experienced as kids. So we need different questions.
And when asked gently and respectfully, we deserve an answer. Admittedly, what I'm about to say might push a few of you outside of your comfort zone. But there are 3 questions I ask about the places where my kids spend time.
My kids simply can't spend time with other kids unless I know answers to these questions. Why? Because it only takes one website to cause trauma in a child. I'm not willing to take that risk.
Do you think I'm being too strict?
Do you have other questions you ask?
