The FortyThree is probably the most impactful release since the GNOME 40 in terms of the features and their impact on your workflow. The feature includes UI updates, GTK4 and libadwaita conversion, other system improvements.
Some of the GNOME 43 highlights include :
- Support for the dark color scheme with the DConf Editor
- Web browser removed PDF.js, experimental web extensions, and more
- New GNOME 43 desktop backgrounds / wallpapers (of course)
- Console (Terminal replacement) arrives in GTK4 / libadwaita glory
- Initial Setup aka Tour and Logs has been ported to GTK 4
- UI updates and other enhancements to GNOME Software
- Much faster processing of directory renames in Tracker
- Quick settings redesigned pill-shaped with toggle buttons
- Performance improvements for document loading in the Text Editor
- Files is now adaptive design, support for rubber banding, other tweaks
- Application launcher now displays pagination arrows
- GNOME Mutter and GNOME Shell improvements
GNOME 43 RELEASE DATE
- Alpha : July 2nd, 2022
- Beta : August 15th, 2022
- RC : September 3rd, 2022
- Final : September 21st, 2022
This successor of GNOME 42 will be shipped as the default desktop environment in upcoming Ubuntu 22.10 Kinetic Kudu that released on October 20, 2022 and Fedora 37. Both are under heavy development right now.
