West Central Missouri Community Action Agency’s “New Growth Transit” volunteer driver network was established in 2018 with a HRSA grant. The program provides transportation for mobility-challenged clients living in nine rural counties in West Central Missouri, allowing them to remain in their communities instead of being forced to move to more densely populated areas. Riders’ destinations include medical appointments, school, social events, and shopping. Availability of the program positively affects multiple determinants of health in rural communities.
