Last month, I used my dividend reinvestment to add shares of Merck. It's a great company selling at a good price. Microsoft's up over 30% in the past year. As a result, Microsoft is currently over 8% of my portfolio. Under my portfolio's policy for diversification, If Microsoft's price stays high, I will trim some of the position back and then use the proceeds of the sale to buy shares of a different stock at a better valuation with a higher yield. Through June, my portfolio is bringing in over $5200 of income per year now. My Yield on Cost (YOC) is now 11.1%.
