We are ready to harvest sweet potatoes that we grew in black food grade plastic containers. Our diversified methods of growing sweet potatoes is really paying off! We have already harvest from raised beds hay bales, and now we are ready to harvest sweet potatoes that we grew in black food grade plastic containers. Sweet potatoes growing in containers maybe be one of our favorite new methods! We grew 5 different varieties of sweet potatoes in these containers, Beauregard, Hannah, Japanese Red, Georgia Jet, and Purple Passion. Each of these varieties has a different shape, test, and style of growing. Some varieties we will for sure grow again, and some we will likely only grow in a raised bed in the future. We propagated the Hannah and Japanese Red varieties from organic, store bought sweet potatoes, and the rest we purchased as slips online. One of the best parts about growing in containers is the ease of harvest. We are able to simply remove the foliage and flip the containers, and the results of our container experiment speak for themselves. Another benefit of this style is you can really vary the size of your container garden to fit the space you have.
