How did I come to design a gear wheel to dose the soap amount of the Sagrotan No-Touch soap dispenser? Simple, my girlfriend brought it to my attention because she said "there's too much soap coming out, can you adjust the amount?" - Um...
I started messing with the soap dispenser and found a way to reduce the amount of soap dispensed. The result is a small gear that anyone can change in a few minutes to reduce soap consumption.
To change the gear you only need a small flathead screwdriver and this is how it works:
0:27 Switch off the Sagrotan or Dettol dispenser and remove the soap.
0:36 Remove the housing cover of the soap outlet
0:51 Remove the tube through which the soap is pumped. To have more freedom of movement later, unwind the cable of the LED. If necessary, remove the LED from the socket.
1:15 Open the battery compartment and loosen the three screws.
1:35 Push out the mechanics and electronics of the soap dispenser downwards by pressing on the soap suction nozzle. CAUTION: The length of the LED cable alone determines how far the inside of the device can be pushed out. So please do not pull too much here to avoid tearing the cable off the LED.
1:58 Remove the large gear wheel. To do this, lift or remove the small gear.
2:15 Note the installation position of the replacement gear! The cam must point in the direction of the motor or in the direction of the small gearwheel. Then replace the small gearwheel. The flat side must face upwards.
Then press the whole unit back into the soap dispenser and screw it together, as well as reattach the soap tube, LED and cover.
With this little DIY hack you have twice as long something from your soap cartridge and save money, the reduced amount of soap is easily enough to wash your hands. If it should be too little soap, the hand can still be held a second time underneath.
