Goals are important to have, not just for the sake of having them or to impress others with your ambitions. No, goals are important because they represent a desire that YOU have, that serves to bring some form of benefit, joy, happiness, or a sense of fulfillment in your life! Your goals should be for "you", no one else. However, your goals can be for the benefit of others. The point is, you have to set them because they are meaningful to you, and ultimately, you're the one that has to achieve them. I like to think of goals in 3 layers. The overarching goals (top-level), medium/longterm goals, and short-term goals. Each level servers to get you to the top level and that top-level represents the achievement of the goal.
