The US authorities understood that young servicemen might have problems adjusting to life in Britain during World War II, so to help them out they created a handy little guide called “Instructions for American Servicemen in Britain 1942”. Apart from trying to prevent unfortunate misunderstandings, it gives a clear picture of how it was in Britain in 1942, and how other countries saw it.
