A “high-yield trade” involves selling a cash-secured put option or covered call option on a high-quality dividend growth stock when it’s trading at an attractive price. I make dozens of these trades each year. I believe they can be a great way to generate safe, high income from some of the best stocks in the market. Anyways, in today’s video, I tell you about my latest high-yield trade. This kind of trading definitely isn’t for everyone… but many of you have expressed an interest in learning about selling options for income, as well as keeping up with some of the income trades I’m personally making in my retirement account. So this is for you. Now, I recently watched a video from Chuck Carnevale of FAST Graphs where he featured 20 high-quality dividend growth stocks that look attractively valued right now. Aflac was the first on the list. If you haven’t seen Chuck’s video, here’s a link to it: ► Chuck’s video that features Aflac: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LOMzjDNg1iI In short, Chuck’s analysis shows that Aflac is cheap at recent levels. Here’s how I’m taking advantage of this opportunity for relatively safe, high income: I sold one $55 January 21, 2022 PUT option on Aflac for $2.25 per share. This generated “instant income” of $225 in my retirement account. What’s exciting about this opportunity is we can collect a relatively safe 10%-plus annualized yield from AFL -- a stock that has a dividend yield of 2.3%. So we’re able to nearly 5x our annualized income with this safe options play. Or, depending on where the stock trades between now and January expiration — and accounting for the strike price and the cash we collect from selling the option — we may end up owning AFL at an 8% discount to where it was trading at on Friday when I made the trade.
