At least five rockets were launched from Iraq’s town of Zummar towards a US military base in northeastern Syria on April 21, as per Iraqi officials. The attack against US forces was the first since early February when Iranian-backed groups in Iraq stopped their attacks against American troops. A Telegram group affiliated with Kataib Hezbollah said armed factions in Iraq had decided to resume attacks on American troops. Meanwhile, on April 21, President Bashar al-Assad said Syria held meetings “from time to time” with Washington, seeking to end a decade-long isolation.
