Yep, You seen correctly im back to the random restorations :). This week the restoration is being done on a Spong's brand Knife polisher i picked up on eBay. As far as i can tell these things are quite rare as i haven't seen anymore come up for sale since buying this one, either that or im just looking in the wrong places. Anyway onto the restoration description. First job as always is to get the item torn into pieces and with this it was very easy as there isn't that much to it just a couple of casings, pad plates the pads themselves and a handle. It was actually in relatively good condition for what it is no major rust, no dents and no parts missing which makes a nice change. Once taken apart i put the polishing pads in a bucket of hot water and all purpose cleaner and let them soak for the duration of the restoration to make sure as much dirt gets dissolved out of them as possible as i cannot replace them as parts are no longer available. Then i made a start on the casings the first job on the agenda was to blast them clean with the sand blaster after a while in there they came out very clean and needing no work except priming. To make sure the lettering on the front case stayed as visible as possible under the layers of primer and paint i followed up the blasting with a good going over with a stiff wire brush attachment on my multi tool to sharpen up the edges and remove nay last traces of dirt or rust. The metal parts were all etch primed and cured before being given a coat of standard grey surfacing primer which was then given a good going over with the red Scotch to refine the finish the n the parts were all painted there respective colours,the internals and the handle got a nice coat of 2k High gloss black acrylic while the casings got a liberal coat of base coat 175- Kryptonite green with added gold pearl for that added pop under direct light. Once cured these parts were then sat aside and i got on with the task of lettering the front casing with gold and red base this part took ages so ive sped it up for you in the video. after that it was just the standard job of clearing the parts and letting them cure in a temperature controlled environment overnight to ensure proper curing. Then came the finishing touches like sanding and coating the wood with a nice satin varnish so as not to clash with the high gloss of the metalwork. Also i took this opportunity to galvanize some of the internals to make sure no rust can set in again. Then came the standard rebuild footage. I really enjoyed getting back to small random projects after the C90 build and i hope you enjoy the smaller projects again as well :) A new addition to my videos from now on will be a water mark and my channel name popping up in random places throughout the video as im getting rather tired of people re-uploading my content as their own i hope you guys understand.
