On day 5 of our 7th cross-country road trip with two little kids (ages 4 & 6) and one old dog (age 107 in dog years but we don't really know for sure because we adopted him fully grown) we travel from a charming little house on the prairie of Kansas to a resort in Vail Colorado. In Kansas, we stayed in an Airbnb with the most amazing host who showed us around her ancestral property. On her land, they have an ancient rock deposit from when Kansas was under the ocean. We look for fossils then head to out again on her property to look for the Penokee Man. The Penokee man is a human effigy made out of stones. The Penokee Man's origins are a mystery but scholars believe it was made by ancient Native Americans on holy ground. We drive to Vail Colorado and stay at the Vail Mountain lodge which is dog friendly.
