"All We've Ever Had (Was Enough)", the second single from the album "The Beauty Of Dysfunction" by Cologne-based band plasticsoup, will be released on 27 March 2024.
Unlike most plasticsoup songs, which are created in long jams, this one was actually created very quickly from a single mould, was recorded as a demo in the home studio and hardly changed afterwards. Perhaps this is why it has retained its sparse, slightly unwieldy character, which gives the opulent, melodic, almost anthemic chorus all the more impact. "All we've ever had (was enough)".
The "peek down the chimney", which the first verse presents us, reveals what it's all about: we peep through the chimney into a world that, in all its well-educated, financially secure, consumption-orientated planning, ultimately proves to be a dead end. The question remains as to what you really have in your hands - only to realise that you actually only have one thing: enough. All we've ever had was enough.
Perhaps we'd rather have the less perfect life - and that brings us back to the title of the album: "The Beauty Of Dysfunction" will be released on 12 April.

Lyrics
I came here today and that means a lot
Can’t seem to remember how to give it all I’ve got
My humble about is boasting with comfortable glee
Take a peek down the chimney – do you like what you see?
All we’ve ever had was enough
All we ever could have hoped for was everything we got
All we’ve ever had was enough
Keep your cavities shut, keep your breakables safe
Keep your valuables valuable, make the misfits behave
Let the hangers-on hang on, let them watch carefully
A middle-class hero is something to be
All we’ve ever had was enough
All we ever could have hoped for was everything we got
All we’ve ever had was enough
