What is science?
Science is the systematic study of the structure and behaviour of the physical and natural world through observation and experiment. Or;
is the study of the nature and behavior of natural things and the knowledge that we obtain about them through observation and experiment. It can also be defined as the study of nature through observation and experiment
Subjects that make up science:
Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Astronomy and Meteorology, Engineering, Medicine, Agriculture, Pharmacy, Electronics, ICT and Material science
We can group them into Natural Science and Applied Science
Natural sciences deal with the physical world and include Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Geology, Astronomy and Meteorology.
The “physical world” is the world that we see around us. It's the world that we experience with the five senses of our bodies. It has set laws that govern how things work, usually referred to as the physical sciences and laws of nature. Anything beyond that is a separate world.
The natural world consists of all the animals, plants, and other things existing in nature and not made or caused by people.
Applied science is the process of applying scientific knowledge to practical problems, and is used in fields such as Engineering, Medicine, Agriculture, Pharmacy, Electronics, ICT, Material science and Early Childhood Education.
Biology, is the science that studies life, and living things, and the evolution of life. Living things include animals, plants, fungi (such as mushrooms), and microorganisms such as bacteria and archaea. People who study biology are called biologists.
Physics, is the study of the nature and properties of matter and energy. The subject matter of physics includes mechanics, heat, light and other radiation, sound, electricity, magnetism, and the structure of atoms.
Chemistry, is the study of matter, its properties, how and why substances combine or separate to form other substances, and how substances interact with energy. An example of chemistry is the study of protons and neutrons, the feeling of affection and attraction between a couple.
Geology, is the study of the Earth, the materials of which it is made, the structure of those materials, and the processes acting upon them. Example is the study of rocks and stones, and also learning about how the Earth was formed.
Astronomy is the study of the sun, moon, stars, planets, comets, galaxies, and other non-Earthly bodies. Or is the scientific study of celestial objects (such as stars, planets, comets, and galaxies) and phenomena that originate outside the Earth's atmosphere.
Meteorology: the scientific study of the atmosphere that focuses on weather processes and forecasting.
Engineering: is the use of scientific principles to design and build machines, structures, and other items, including bridges, tunnels, roads, vehicles, and buildings.
Medicine: the science or practice of the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
Agriculture is cultivation of the soil for the growing of crops and the rearing of animals to provide food, wool, and other products for mans use.
Pharmacy is a shop or hospital dispensary where medicinal drugs are prepared or sold. It can also be defined as the science or practice of the preparation and dispensing of medicinal drugs.
Electronics: is the study of how to control the flow of electrons. It deals with circuits made up of components that control the flow of electricity.
Electronics is a part of physics and electrical engineering. Electrical components like transistors and relays can act as switches.
ICT Stands for "Information and Communication Technologies." ICT refers to technologies that provide access to information through telecommunications (the transmission of signals over long distances).
It is similar to Information Technology (IT), but focuses primarily on communication technologies. This includes the Internet, wireless networks, cell phones, and other communication mediums.
Material science is the scientific study of the properties and applications of materials of construction or manufacture (such as ceramics, metals, polymers, and composites)
Meaning of Integrated Science: Integrated science is a subject that involves teaching and learning several fields of science in a holistic manner.
