Forensic genetic genealogy is a new approach that involves using genetic information obtained from direct-to-consumer genealogy databases to identify both suspects and victims in cold cases. It has been helping investigators track suspects and identify victims in several cold cases, in which obtaining closure and answers seemed close to impossible. In fact, this technology has aided in identifying over 150 suspects involved in decades-old cold cases to date, including the infamous Golden State Killer case. The utilization of publicly available genealogical databases is crucial to the investigative potential of genetic genealogy. Today's video is going to focus on one such cold case that has been solved after 65 years due to advancements in genetic genealogy. This case is now the oldest cold case in U.S. history to be solved using forensic genetic genealogy.
