Gray Granite Railroad's Second Steam Engine. On Thursday, April 18, 2024, the Gray Granite Railroad in South Glastonbury, Connecticut welcomed a wood burning 1913 Baldwin 2-6-0 Mogul steam locomotive. Recently purchased by the railroad, it had operated for the W.T. Smith Lumber Company in Chapman, Alabama until that company stopped hauling logs with steam engines. The locomotive is particularly intriguing because it only operated in one place during its service life and has already seen a tremendous amount of work towards restoration. It joins two diesel locomotives as well as another steam engine currently under restoration. GGRR 1903, a Plymouth 35T native of American Steel Foundries in East Chicago, Indiana, was used to pull the steam locomotive off of the trailer. The Gray Granite Railroad at Cavanna's Farm in South Glastonbury, CT is an original creation of the Cavanna Family to navigate portions of their farm as there was no previous trackage at this location, and regularly operates themed tourist trains.
