Removable inserts, sometimes called hand-loaded inserts, are inserts that are physically placed into a mold and molded into the part, then removed when the part is finished, with the intention to achieve a feature such as an under cut or thread in the part that difficult to be achieved by moving mechanism such as slides, collapsible cores or unscrewing mechanisms to automatically remove threaded inserts from the part during ejection molding.
The benefits of removable inserts for rapid tooling and molding:
1. Reduce the cost of tooling for plastic parts with complex geometries
2. Eliminating the need for secondary machining, speeding up the production cycle
3. Reducing production of scrap and probability of rework
4. Suitable for low volume injection molding projects.
