Brian Hooks, CEO of Stand Together, sits down with IHS President and CEO Dr. Emily Chamlee-Wright to discuss the new book he has co-authored with Charles Koch: "Believe in People: Bottom-up Solutions for a Top-down World." Believe in People calls for a paradigm shift in how we deal with systemic social problems. Instead of a top-down approach that relies on public policy or large institutions, Koch and Hooks argue for bottom-up solutions “that empower everyone to realize their potential and foster a more inclusive society.” In this conversation, Dr. Chamlee-Wright asks Hooks about how some of the ideas in the book connect to the classical liberal intellectual tradition, why they wrote the book, and what it really means to believe in people.
This conversation took place on Thursday, January 14 , 2021.
The book Believe in People features stories and lessons aimed at helping people find new and better ways to tackle the biggest problems in our country. Koch and Hooks argue that the solutions to our country’s problems are all around us. They write that if we’re willing to believe in people, and empower them from the bottom-up, and unite with anybody to do right, we can work together to build a society where everyone can rise.
