The New Hanover County Board of Commissioners was joined by county staff and other community partners for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially open Hanover Pines Nature Park to the public.
Located at 6101 Carolina Beach Road in the Myrtle Grove area, the 42.5-acre complex features a 1.25-mile paved walking trail, dog park, picnic shelter, restrooms, and an owl-themed playground, the only one of its kind in the region.
Known as a passive park with limited development on the site, Hanover Pines provides educational opportunities to learn about the local ecosystem while enjoying nature. In all, the project, which has been in discussion for more than a decade, cost $2.8 million to complete. With its opening, New Hanover County now oversees 17 parks throughout the community.
