Cory Doctorow is a science fiction author, activist, and journalist. His most recent works are THE INTERNET CON: HOW TO SEIZE THE MEANS OF COMPUTATION, a Big Tech disassembly manual, and RED TEAM BLUES, a science fiction crime thriller. In 2020, he was inducted into the Canadian Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame.
The enshittification of the internet follows a predictable trajectory: first, platforms are good to their users; then, they abuse their users to make things better for their business customers; finally, they abuse those business customers to take back value for themselves. In his talk, Cory will take the audience through the process of disenshittifying the internet via antitrust, limits on corporate tweaking, privacy laws, and other protections.
