EASY FIX with some basic household items! The Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter connector on my MacBook Pro Retina (late 2013) gets worryingly hot when charging and under load. This could be caused by the Magsafe connector 2&4 pins being pressed down and not fully extended, thus not making full contact. Loose contact can cause arcing/sparking which generates heat to make Magsafe hot.
