As the BJP spearheads temple freedom movements in southern states like Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, it has taken the opposite route in Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s Uttarakhand — the BJP government made a short-lived attempt to wrest control over temples from priests through the Char Dham Devasthanam Management Act. But hundreds of priests came down from the mountains to protest the act, and the agitation was successful.
