Scientists Have Created the World's Sharpest Thing. But why?
So at first you might think we're talking about Obsidian blades. There's even Obsidian scalpels that are rarely licensed for use on humans. But that's not even close. Until recently, the sharpest object was the Tungsten Nano needle. The tip of these can be a million times smaller than a millimetre.
But now scientists have made an even sharper object. And it's really useful.
So you can make it with the tungsten wires in an old light bulb. You put this in a potassium hydroxide solution, and cause necking to split the wire. Then, with pulse etching, you can sharpen it further. This creates a needle with a tip thickness of just one atom. This means, we can look at the world's smallest things
through an electron microscope. So
