Is 8GB of VRAM enough? In some recent games, the answer is a clear NO. I began by testing out Resident Evil 4 Remake, and noticing that the RTX 3070 Ti cannot even run the game without crashing unless turning down textures to control VRAM, which is a shame because it clearly has enough performance to run the game maxed out, but is just running out of VRAM. I then discuss other recent games that are using a lot of VRAM like Hogwarts Legacy and Forspoken. I also believe that this will become even more of an issue over time as game developers start to target their 1440p max settings toward the newer generation of cards like the 4070 Ti and 4070, which feature 12GBs of VRAM.
