More Americans than ever are expected to mail in their ballots this year, thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. The United States Postal Service started removing mail sorting machines, which can sort 36,000 pieces of mail per hour. That change and other reforms have caused delivery delays across the country. Though Postmaster General Louis DeJoy said that the USPS would no longer be removing machines ahead of the election, mail delays could still impact what votes are counted in the general election.
