In this video we're going over VFR radio communications with Air Traffic Control for flying in and out of Class D airspace. Even though we're based at Deer Valley Airport in Phoenix AZ, we decided to pretend we're just stopping for gas to be consistent with our other videos for flying in and out of Class C and Class B airports. Really, class D is where it all starts. It's considered the runt of the towered airports and is usually used for airports that have enough traffic to warrant a tower. BUT that's not always the case. Sometimes the Airspace around the airport can force it to be a Class D, like at Deer Valley. It's the busiest general aviation airport in the US and could EASILY be class C, but the class B above it wont let it. Just some food for thought.
