In today’s episode we’re venturing to the Deep South to explore an abandoned psychiatric hospital that dates back to 1828. In 1900 the hospital was known has the hospital for the colored insane that only had African American patients exclusively until 1969 when it came as desegregated. But let’s go back to 1906 when an unknown disease spread through the hospital killing 57 patients. This was due to the poor diet that was corn based which caused a vitamin deficiency. Fast forward to Halloween 2012 the state shut down several hospitals including this one with a plan to treat mentally ill patients elsewhere. This hospital is not the easiest to explore though.
