I had a chance to spend quite a bit of time with the Bowtech Fuel R.A.K. package thanks to some help from Shooter's Choice in Waterloo, Canada.
With a suggested retail price of $500, the Bowtech Fuel package comes with fairly basic accessories, but it's enough for you to get out shooting right away.
My biggest issue with the package was the Apex three-pin sight. Adjusting the individual pins was cumbersome, as the pins liked to twist when you tightened down the screws holding them in place. The rest of the accessories worked without issue.
My test bow came dressed in Mossy Oak Up Country Camo, but we found some minor imperfections in the finish on the riser. We also had some trouble with the string end loop material, which is very fragile and suffered a rip the first time pulled the string off the cam post in a bow press.
Draw length can be adjusted from 18 to 30 inches without using a bow press and draw weight is adjustable from 14 to 70 pounds. That would fit just about any adult… and quite a few kids as well.
Where this bow shines is in the draw cycle. At my usual 60-pounds of draw weight, the Fuel was buttery smooth to pull back. I'd add at least another 5 pounds of draw weight if I owned this bow. It also has a generous valley and the best let-off I experienced with any of the five entry level bows I tested this year.
As for speed, I set up the Fuel at 60 pounds of draw weight and a 29-inch draw length and recorded an average speed of 272 feet per second with a 380-grain Black Eagle Zombie Slayer arrow. That was just a hair slower than I expected considering the bow's 320-feet per second IBO rated speed. Still, it's plenty powerful to take down a big whitetail without issue.
