The future of sailing involves more women, younger sailors, and foiling technology.
The 37th America's Cup is leading the way with the creation of the Women's America's Cup and Youth America's Cup regattas.
A New York Yacht Club and American Magic task force has been formed to spearhead this effort. Selecting and preparing teams for the Youth and Women's America's Cup regattas will be a primary focus, but not the only one. The aim is broader than one event and will encompass a variety of high-performance sailboats, from singlehanded Moths and Waszps to the three-person Persico 69F to the AC40.
In August 2022, some of America's top women and youth sailors participated in a foiling exhibition in lower Narragansett Bay, where they sailed Moths and Perisco 69Fs.
These events fit perfectly within a broader NYYC and American Magic initiative to raise the technical skills of younger sailors and identify and nurture top talent.
