Problem: if your snowblower doesn't throw snow as far anymore, the snowblower clogs a lot, snowblower doesn't scrape the driveway as cleanly, snowblower just pushes snow like a shovel. Then you probably need to replace the snowblower blades/paddles and the scraper bar.
In this video, I walk you through the steps and tools needed to replace the paddles (blades) and the scraper blade on single stage (I have a Toro) snowblower. Note that at the end of the video I say that I needed a hair dryer to heat up the paddles.
Once you know what to do, it should take about 30-45 minutes. This video is 33 minutes as I talk you through the steps.
You need to replace the paddles (rotor blades) and the scraper blade when the snowblower doesn't throw the snow as far anymore, clogs the chute, and/or simply just pushes the snow forward like a shovel. Look at the wear indicator on the blades/paddles to see when to replace.
Note, that the disassembly didn't take long and you can do it yourself. But ideally for the reinstall you may want a second set of hands to help out. Make sure you have good lighting. Don't have a lot of gas in the blower otherwise you will spill it when tilting the machine. Make sure you have the right tools and bits before you start, otherwise you may take somethings off, don't have the right tools to finish, and the next hour it snows and you need a functioning machine.
Finally, the bottom bolts/nuts on the paddles are hard to install. Take your time. Heat the paddles with the hair dryer to make them more pliable.
Post any comments below. Thanks. Also check out my other "hack" on how to start your blower if you are missing the primer bulb (the button you push to prime the engine).
