Before 1993, CTA's Red and Green Lines operated pretty much opposite of how they run now. The Green Line originally ran as the Lake-Dan Ryan route and the Red Line ran as the Howard-Englewood-Jackson Park route. In 2013, the Dan Ryan line had to be shut down for a 5 month reconstruction of the whole line. As a result, Red Line trains were sent on their original routing via the 13th Street incline to the South Side Elevated to Ashland/63. This video is a recap of the announcement program of this reroute that exists on the CTA’s 5000 Series rail cars.
