My end goal with this is to use my CNC machine to take 3d point measurement of a surface in a grid array in a fully automated manner. This can use for surface topology mapping highly accurately due to the laser line on the webcam sensor. In order to get there, I need to find a very accurate source for a laser line in order to take 3d samples of a surface. This is my first attempt at generating such a line by averaging the surface of a spinning cylinder. The benefit I see with this method over just bouncing off a spinning laser, is you get to average out the surface as it’s spinning while a point source will transfer all it’s surface imperfections, run-out, etc onto the sensor.
By far there’s lots to improve, Let me know if you have any ideas to generate a line. Or improving the surface mirror quality.
